Zodiac: So What?

インターンが始まって最初の週末。
渋谷に映画を観に行ってきた。
「Zodiac」。
あるテレビ番組でおすぎがこの映画を絶賛・・・とまでは言わないが、高評価を与えていた映画。
上映時間直前に着いたがお客さんが意外にも少ない。
嫌な予感は果たして的中。
盛り上がりもなく、気がつくといつの間にかエンドロール。
観終わった感想は・・・「で、何？」
残念ながら星２つです。
★★☆☆☆。

After-work Billiards

今日でサマー・インターンシップの第1週目も終了。

仕事が終わり、職場の人たちと軽く食事に行き、その後ビリヤードへ。

大学1～2年の頃はよく近くのビリヤード場へ行ってましたが、大学3～4年になるとその回数は減り、社会人になってからはほとんどビリヤードをする機会はなし。

というわけで、ずいぶん久しぶりのビリヤードです。
さて、緊張して臨んだゲームは・・・まぁ、まずまずでした。
仕事の後に行くというのは、良い気分転換にもなり、かなり楽しめました。

イメージと実際のプレイは多少のギャップはありましたが、インターンが終わる頃にはもうちょっと上達しているかもしれません。

Rendezvous at Kagurazaka

仕事が終わってから、妻と妻の妹と神楽坂で待ち合わせ。

「神楽」＋「坂」＝「神楽坂」

素敵な響きの街だ。

素敵なのは響きだけではない。
表通りから一歩路地へ入ると、住宅街の中においしそうなレストランなどがあった。
なかなか興味深い街だ。
週末、時間があるときにゆっくり散策してみたいと思う。

さて、妻たちとは神楽坂駅近くにある神社のそばで軽く食事をした。
妻は明日九州へ。

Pretty Tired

Day 3 of the internship has passed. The work has not been very hard, but I'm feeling a little tired. Maybe this muggy climate is depressing me or maybe I'm still feeling nervous in this new environment. I went home about 6:30 PM today to do the laundry. In realty, I found my self sleeping on the bed...

インターン3日目終了。
仕事はそれほどハードではないのだが、何やら疲れる。
この蒸し暑い気候のせいか、それともまだ新しい環境にナーバスになっているのか。
今日は洗濯をするともりで6:30頃帰社した。
しかし、実際にはベッドで気を失っていました。。。

Izakaya

After work, I went for a drink at an izakaya with colleagues. They threw a welcome party for me. Thanks a lot!

仕事の後、職場の先輩たちと居酒屋へ向かった。
僕のための歓迎会。
どうもありがとうございます。

It's been almost one year since I went to an izakaya last. Drinking "Grapefruit Chu-hi" and "Imo Sho-chu", I was really happy there.

最後に居酒屋に行ったのはほとんど1年前。
グレープフルーツ・チュウハイや芋焼酎を飲んで幸せでした。

The First Day

It's the first day of Summer Internship today. Any first day makes me nervous. Dress code at the workplace is business casual but I wore a suit and a tie simply because it's the first day. It's been a long, long time since I wore a suit and a tie last. Needless to say, very stifling...

今日はインターンシップ初日。
初日というのはやはり緊張するものです。
職場でのドレス・コードはビジネス・カジュアル。
しかし、初日ということでスーツとタイで出勤。
最後にスーツとタイを着たのはいつだろう。
言うまでもありませんが、息苦しい。

In the morning I was assigned a project during the internship. I cannot tell what the assignment is but it is challenging and interesting. I hope I can fully complete it and satisfy the company.

午前中、インターン期間中の課題が与えられた。
どのような課題か、この場で言うことはできないが、チャレンジングかつおもしろい内容。
満足いくできる結果が残せればと思います。

I spent doing the laundry and reading a book today.

今日は洗濯をして、読書をした。

Summer Internship starts tomorrow.

明日はいよいよインターンが始まる。

Finally Get Connected

Since I moved to an apartment, everything has been OK but the Internet. That's very problematic and very frustrating. I can access to the Internet, but the speed is really slow. I actually have spent a few hours trying to figure out what the problem is, but I couldn't solve it... I called the customer service center and explained my situation, but they couldn't solve it... Without the Internet, I am feeling like I am not connected to the world any more. This is a little surprising to me. So, I was almost at a loss and went out for a while.

マンスリー・マンションに引っ越して以来、特に問題はない。
インターネットを除いては。こればかりは本当に頭が痛い。
インターネットにつながるにはつながるのだが、スピードが遅すぎる。
今日は何時間もかけたが問題がわからず。
そして、カスタマー・センターに電話したが彼らも問題を解決できず。
インターネットなしの生活というものは、まるで自分自身が世界から切り離されたように感じてしまうから不思議なものだ。
結局途方に暮れ、外出することにした。

After I came home, I suddenly came up with a possible solution to the problem!
"It must be a network software."
When I access to Palo Verde Residential Network, I need to run the software to make the connection secure. Actually the software starts running automatically when I start PC. Then I closed the software and tried to access to the Internet again.
"Ah-ha! I got connected!"
The problem was simple and I was finally connected to the Internet and the world!

帰宅した後、突然解決策を思いついた。
「ネットワーク・ソフトウェアに違いない」
そのソフトウェアはPalo Verdeのネットワークに接続する際に必要なもので、接続をセキュアにしてくれる。
実際にはそのソフトウェアはPCを立ち上げると自動的に起動するようになっている。
そのソフトウェアを閉じ、もう一度インターネットにアクセスしてみると
「あ、つながった！」
こんなに簡単な理由だったんだ。
果たして、インターネットに、いや世界につながりましたとさ。

Separation Starts

This afternoon I moved to a short-stay apartment near Iidabashi station. My wife, on the other hand, stays at her sister's apartment in Tokyo for several days and will then stay at her parents' house in Kyushu during Summer. So, it's the start of our separation today. If you googled "separation" and found this blog, sorry about that. Our separation is far from that kind of separation.

今日の午後、飯田橋駅近くのマンスリーマンションに入居。
妻は当分の間、東京に住んでいる妹のところにお世話になり、その後九州の両親の家でお世話になる。
というわけで「別居」開始である。
グーグルで“別居”を検索し、このブログにたどり着いた方がいたらすいません。
残念ながら、このブログはあなたの求めているものとは違うでしょう。

After simple paperwork, I entered the room. Well...the room is well maintained and clean but somehow depressing to me. Compared to my living room of Palo Verde (on-campus apartment at UCI), this room is a little bit dark and cramped. But the location is good. I can walk to the workplace during Summer Internship. That's definitely great because I hate to take a notorious crowded train in Tokyo.

簡単な事務処理の後、いよいよ部屋へ。
まぁ、きちんと手入れされこぎれいな部屋だが、どことなく憂鬱になる。
Palo Verdeの部屋と比べると、少々暗くて狭苦しいので仕方ない。
しかし、場所は良い。
サマー・インターンの間、職場まで歩いて通うことができる。
東京の悪名高い満員電車に乗らずにすむなんて、こんなにすばらしいことはない。

At night I had a rendezvous with my wife and her sister at Shibuya for dinner. My choice was rice with Japanese-yam and tempura udon. They were really nice!

夜になって、妻と妹と渋谷で待ち合わせして食事。
僕はとろろご飯とてんぷらうどんを食べたが、これは本当においしかった。

On the way back to Shibuya station, I was in the crowds of people, people, so many people! At that time I felt I came back to Japan.

食事後、渋谷駅に向かう途中、気がつくと周りは人、人、人。
あらためて、日本に帰ってきたんだなぁ、と実感。

Back to Japan

I am back to Japan. Right after landing on Narita International Airport, my first impression was muggy. Just MUGGY. There is no wonder since it's unfortunately been in Tsuyu, the rainy season, in Japan. Very different from sunny and dry weather in Southern California.

日本に帰ってきました。
成田に着いての第一印象は・・・蒸し暑い。
ただ、蒸し暑い。
それもそのはず、日本は今梅雨の時期真っ只中。
いつも快晴の南カリフォルニアとは大違い。

Arriving at a hotel in Ginza, my wife and I went straight to Sushisen, a sushi restaurant. This was my wife's very strong idea. Nothing was gonna stop her. See seemed very happy with fresh sushi there.

銀座のホテルに着いて真っ先に向かった先は、すし鮮。
これは妻のアイデア。
彼女は言い出したら止まりません。。。
すしを食べて満足そうでした。

Then we went to UNIQLO in Ginza to get some stuffs including shirts and chino pants. During the Summer internship starting next week, I'm gonna wear Business Casual. No jeans and no t-shirts. But chino pants are OK. Lucky for me.

それから向かった先はユニクロ。
目的はチノパンとシャツの調達。
来週から始まるサマー・インターンシップの間はビジネス・カジュアル。
ジーンズやＴシャツはダメですが、チノパンはＯＫです。
楽チンですね。

Back to the hotel, I dropped off into deep sleep...
そして、ホテルに戻り深い眠りに。
